OH.

MY.

GOODness!

hoooooEEE is it hot!  and crazy!  and wonderful!!

Things are in full swing around the farm, just trying to keep our heads above water while we play the eternal game of catch-up!  But then...what's new?

A few whirlwind weekends to celebrate friends, family and loved ones graduating, having birthdays, getting matched to their medical specialty for residency....you name it.  The result is we skipped straight from February to JUNE and didn't notice a second go by!

February saw the 2nd Beerthday Bash for the beer farm....We had a wonderful time and 4 big days of celebration, food, fun and friends!  We can't believe it's only been 2 years....And that it's already been 2 years!!!  We also traveled north to Omaha to see our Anna (future sis-in-law by way of Tommy, Preston's baby brother) receive her match for the next step in medical school-her residency.  She got Denver!  We are so excited to have both of our brothers and their families in one state! (My bro and family are in Colorado Springs).  So much happening and our little circles are starting to overlap in the most wonderful ways!

  3 month's worth

3 month's worth

March was our St Paddy's day feast--that was so insane I don't remember standing still ALL DAY!  We released the annual Irish Ale Cailleach Ruadh, served up about 50lbs of house corned beef and lots of fun!

April saw our sweet Sandy's birthday (Preston's little sister), and the in-person Ohio delivery of her own Saison Cassandra, a french farmhouse saison made with over 40lbs per barrel of Arkansas blueberries!  It was all a surprise and man was it worth all of it just to see the look on her face!!

The last week of April took us to Nashville for the Craft Brewer's Conference!  Our first time there, it was a teensy bit overwhelming!  14,000 craft beer professionals attend this conference from all over the world!  We were extremely honored for the opportunity to serve our beer at the welcome reception and got lots of positive feedback and praise about our Saison Cassandra and our Blue Centennial.  I had several fan-girl moments, including meeting the founder of the Pink Boots Society Teri Fahrendorf, the current PBS president Laura Ulrich -also Stone Brewing's small batch brewer.  nbd. We saw a talk with Sam Calgione, founder of Dogfish Head Brewing and got to chat with him afterward--he was so excited to meet fellow nano-brewers he took a selfie with us and said we inspired him ! I'm dead! Later I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Brooklyn Brewing's Garrett Oliver, also author of the Oxford Companion to Beer.  BIG BIG week :-)

  the makins for mariachi....

the makins for mariachi....

May plopped right down in our laps with our annual Cinco de Mayo celebration, and the release of this year's batch of Mariachi Stout.  This year I brewed it with Ancho chiles from the farm and A Mexican coffee roasted by our friend Liz over at Retro Roasters in Russellville!  It turned out quite tasty, rich London style with a slight residual sweetness, little to no bitterness, all the depth of the oceans thanks to the mad skills of Troubadour Maltings, and just a tingle of heat on the finish.  We still have a bit on tap if you missed out, or just want more!  Food was a big hit that day too, despite our electrical challenges in the kitchen--as always our friends and neighbors came to the rescue and we were able to deliver hundreds of you those tacos you came for :-)

A few weeks after that we rushed off to Columbia Missouri to the graduation of a dear family friend's youngest....circled back to cook more food for ya, then hopped a plane to Colorado for my nephew Jeffrey's graduation!  (Are you tired yet?)  All feet are back on the ground and we are hitting the farm work HARD!  Half of the new high tunnel is full, the old high tunnel has several transitions going on from the last of spring crop to the new summer stuff....500 Hatch plants are about to go in the ground...200 other peppers....flowers, herbs, veggies, fruits.....all going in better late than never!

That said....we would love to build a list of Friends of the Beer Farm volunteers to call on for various projects throughout the busy season.  Please email me if you're interested!  prestonrosefarm@gmail.com  There's not much pay but I'll feed you, send you home with veggies and of course, farm fresh beer!!

future farm stay airbnbs!

Currently:  The old structures on the farm are being spruced up with the ultimate goal of offering airbnb on the farm.......storage containers are on the way so we can begin the gentle process of taking the old barn down and putting up the new brewery building....then putting up the old barn on top of it!.....the ever evolving kitchen has a new annex--the beer farm smokehouse!  We will be serving up some mouth watering bbq in no time!.....we just started carrying Fort Smith Popcorn Co....adding to the snacks available during all business hours, not just kitchen hours!.......I have started making Popsicles!  Last week was fresh Arkansas strawberries, farm fresh peppermint and cream....super yummy!  They will be available most Sat/Sun and I'm pretty excited to feature seasonal stuff in a cool, summer treat!  Watermelon Cucumber pops?  Yes please!.......

A few super cool media happenings of late....one was a podcast interview by James over at Basic Brewing, he came by, sampled some beer and talked shop.  It came through as a pretty cool podcast you can hear here..... http://hwcdn.libsyn.com/p/d/e/3/de3a1c745cdbaf58/bbr03-29-18prestonrose.mp3?c_id=20019054&cs_id=20019054&expiration=1527621359&hwt=9118c5b220a23d6345dd1ece3d3f9393

In another radio event, our friend Steve Shuler, Little Rock writer, was invited to be a guest on Tap Time, a beer show on 103.7 The Buzz.  He brought a little growler of some beer he purchased from us earlier that weekend and the love-fest that followed was nothing short of blush-inducing.  I cannot say enough how much it fills my heart to hear people react positively to the product that comes from the work I've chosen as my path.  It can be a little embarrassing, as I've never been great with praise...but mostly I get over that and sit back and graciously listen to the kind, supportive words friends have to offer.  I am so, so SO thankful for the support and enthusiasm we have received thus far, and cannot wait to spend many more years working hard to bring smiles to faces and bellies all around us!  You can hear the radio broadcast here...listen to the whole thing!  They talk much of one of my absolute favorite breweries, Ozark Beer Co. as well.  https://arkbeerscene.blogspot.com/2018/05/tap-time-radio-may-14th-2018.html?m=1

The latest print coverage is pretty magnificent too--our friend Lacey Thacker over at Arkansas Food and Farm as written a wonderful article about Prestonrose....it's not yet posted online but should be shortly at https://www.arkansasfoodandfarm.com

Just before that, we had a sweet little writeup in Southwest Brewing News!  The feature was called Garage B(r)ands!  It was a special section featuring breweries from every state in the region who are super small and unique!  Check it out!  http://swbnonline.brewingnews.com/publication/?m=9252&l=1

Again...we are overwhelmed with the love and support from our community, friends and family!  Thank you all!

Love and CHEERS!!

Liz
